Well, back on the job, after weeks of being LAZY as hell, totally useless, and pretty much just screwing off.......
It was kinda forced however LOL........ I have John Cammalleri's 500 MDM here, with its NEW AI Stock, doing some shooting, and checking the gun out overall. Have to make sure feed/function is 100% good to go before sending it back to him. And, after about 50 rounds the last two days, proud to say everything is indeed 100%..........
I have been shooting that nasty ammo brass formed, knotty and gnarly...... But as Pauly says, it does work......Shooting 460 Raptors (Obsolete) at 2400 fps, 550 Solids 2180 fps, 335 Raptors 2765 fps, and yesterday some 450 Solids at 2600 fps. Now I gotta tell you, those 450s at 2600 got my attention a good bit.
In between, I fell in with the two 500 B&Ms.... Holy cow, they felt like mouse guns compared to the MDM. LOL......... The Myrtle Gun, is the OLD GUN, new Stock........ Sighted it in with 450 Solids at 2360 and 410 Tipped Raptors at 2490 fps....... Shooting great, Feed/Function 100% in the new Myrtle Stock..... I really LIKE these guns. The 500 B&M are not built on 500 MDM specs. They are actually built on 50 B&M spec barrel contour and length at 18 inches. Using the larger action like the 500 MDM. They have a different feel to them than the bigger MDM and the smaller 50 B&M. Odd, but nice. Stock is a bit shorter as well to match 50 B&M and the 18 inch barrels.
Problem is, I like them all, 500 MDM, 500 B&M, and 50 B&M....... All of these are serious hitters any way you cut it.
This is indeed posted in big bores, however I also have a backlog of other items pending. I had bought two Winchester M70 223 rifles in December. One smaller feather weight type rifle and the other a large heavy barrel varmint type.
I fully expected the twist rate in these older guns to be 1:14 or maybe even slower, who knows. Shooting the FW yesterday to test, sure enough 50 Raptors were full sideways at 25 yards.... Fired two rounds, enough to confirm, now it sits to the side until I figure out what I want to do, get a new 223 barrel at 1:7 to 1:9 or convert to something else, 7.62X40 or what have you?
The other gun is totally strange. Heavy Winchester barrel, long, 26+ inches. It also is a long actioN?? It has a bolt I have never seen? it looks like something someone converted to 223 from something like 30/06 or something? I did not realize it from the photos on GunBroker. Not complaining, just odd. I am thinking since someone converted this, it might shoot? However, it is a Winchester barrel, New Haven, so it is probably SLOW twist as well.... I will find out today on it.
Other items backlogged for sighting and shooting in, Winchester Stainless M70 in 300 Winchester, Ruger M77 22 lr, A couple of AR one in 300 BLK and other in 7.62X40 to sight in, my Win 1885 in 416 B&M 24 inch barrel and the Win 1885 in 50 B&M AK, both these are sight in and do some work with.
On top of these, I put to the side the 6.5 WSM and the 223 WSSM. I need to work on those, but I don't have the patience with those finicky little SOB's enough right now to mess with them, so they are both way back on the back burner, and I may hide the bastards so I can't even see them........
I also received both of the boys new Winchester M70 308 Maple guns back from Brian. I had Brian whittle them down to 20 Inches and bed those Maple stocks. In the process my TWO GOOBERS, decided they wanted the barrels threaded, so they could play Sub Sonic. I made the argument against this, but relented in the end. Told Brian to put thread protectors, and he put some sort of big, gnarly looking thing on them. LOL, looks like pecker barrels now! UGLY. I should have "Just Said NO" to the threading issue! G'Damn it to hell! Pisses me off!
Anyway, I put bases on both guns yesterday, and two new Nikon 3X9 scopes on for them. I actually carried them out to sight in, and on the bench I said to myself, "Why am I doing this for them?" I decided they actually need some experience of how to do things, so I carried both back to the Lab without firing a round. In hind sight, I should have not mounted the scopes either, and teach them how to do that as well.... Goobers I tell you, Goobers.............
OMG, I don't know what the deal is, but seems everyone has decided to build B&Ms recently! I have been in contact with at least 1/2 dozen in the last 2-3 weeks that are building guns and of course I am assisting in whatever way I can. This in addition to our regular guys here, such as Curtis, which is in the process of one, and now thinking about another... LOL..............
Back on the range today, no telling what I will get into.......... Tomorrow afternoon is interesting. Have a couple of fellows pitching in along with Billy. Not sure exactly what the story is, but has something to do with a fellow that wants to start building AR15s in 300 Hamr, that dumbass Wilson longer 7.62X40 so he can put Wilson on it..... I intend to educate them on that, depending on what they are up to
Busy...............
Well, it's good to see you doing SOME work these days.
My 500 MDM made it to Mike yesterday. I don't see myself going back to Africa so the Buffalo are safe from me. But if It does happen, I have my new, never fired Searcy Rising Bite in .470 NE that needs to kill something.
Gonna wait til the weather warms up a bit before going back to CO for the rest of my reloading stuff so, I'm not gonna be able to organize til spring. And Maybe not then, depends on what the Doc's in San Diego end up doing to me.
Damn wind blew All Day yesterday. Minimum of 40 with gusts up to 70.

I've been threading some of my guns and all new ones are threaded. Found this Michigan manufacture in a small town while traveling to the house in the UP, Hughes Precision Products makes some nice thread protectors at a good price....
Never been a fan of flash hiders or muzzle brakes. All my AR's have Hughes thread protectors. I coat the threads before installing with Permatex Copper Anti-Seize Lubricant. Also on all suppresser threads, its good to 1800 degrees.

For sub-sonics in the 308 and several other calibers, Trail Boss is my powder of choice. Its the quietest and very clean. Using CEB 190 gr.Raptor sub-sonic start at 10.5gr. and work up to about 1030 fps. Your going to need at least a 1-8" twist. I picked up 500 Hornady 195 gr. seconds for plinking, they shoot to the same point as the CEB's with smaller groups. Had 2 guy's at the club ask me what kind of air gun I was shooting, its that quiet with the Hybrid.

Holy Cow, that is INSANE..........70 is getting all over Cat 1 Hurricane...........

Thanks Coyote......... In the past I used about any 150-165 Flat base with I believe it was 9 gr Unique for Sub Sonic in 308. But I never really shot too many, it was for a friend of mine.......I think there is some Trail Boss around here somewhere, if so, will try that out too.. See what happens, but I am making the boys order two adaptors on their own, they wanted, they pay... LOL........ I have one here that will work, but I am not telling them.........
I didn't get any range time in today at all...... I did get two rifles scoped out. I had a Ruger M77 22lr sitting in the rack for over a year to put a scope on so I could shoot some 22 lr. I scrounged some rings up today, and mounted one of the 2X7 Nikons I had laying around.
Same story with a Win M70 Stainless 300 Win. LONGGGGGGGGGGGG barrel, 24 inches, looks like a skinny ass musket............ Put a 4X14 Monarch I had laying about on it.... So at least I got two more ready to shoot, maybe tomorrow..........
Got busy with my boat guy today making a plan to look at some boats in March...............
On Thursday we had some visitors that were looking for advice and wanting to check some data on a new 300 Hamr.... Wilson bullshit. The 300 Hamr is the new answer to all the worlds woes and troubles......according to Wilson. Far and above the 300 BLK and 7.62X40, which Wilson did not develop himself...... 300 Hamr? It is a exact duplicate of the 7.62X40.... except it is .040 inches longer........Of course this is all marketing bull shit at its finest....... One is not really any better off, and in fact, I am not sure how they are doing this with the magazine restrictions? I have not looked into that, but the reason 7.62X40 is the length it is, is because it is max length to fit magazines available in AR 15s........ How a longer cartridge is viable, I don't know, never got that far in the Bull Shit Propaganda, when I saw it was just a longer version of 7.62X40, I did not pay any more attention to it. Maybe they are using a modified magazine? Don't know, don't really care.
Wilson stated he wanted increased performance that the 7.62X40 could not give. Well, from the velocity he shows, its not any better than the 7.62X40. If he was smart, he would enhance the performance by better bullet choices and some better load development as we have here with the 7.62X40 using the mighty 100 Raptor and load development we have done. Such as instead of using AA 1680 like Wilson does, we use LilGun and WW 296, which is far out performing the slower AA 1680...... and Blah blah fucking blah............
Now here comes some chaps that don't know this, and nearly swallowing the Wilson propaganda. They left with new load data, and a handful of 100 gr Raptors to try. One of the fellows was already a 7.62X40 fan, and left with more knowledge and understanding than when he arrived. Good Fellows, and they listened. I am sure they will be surprised with the increased performance, which can also be carried over to the 300 Hamr. In fact, the same data for 7.62X40 will work, and be lower pressures. They had some factory ammo to test, and it tested well, and close to what was advertised by Wilson. It also fit in standard magazines... I suppose bullet was seated deeper or something. I never took time to study it, or take a cartridge apart..... We also used a 20 inch gun to test, advert velocity was in 18.
That wrapped the week up for me.........
Your "BOAT GUY"???? Your boat is not big enough?
Your “BOAT GUY”???? Your boat is not big enough?
HEH........Yeah, might be looking at a little bit bigger boat come end of the year.....Maybe, lot of things have to come right.
